gas strut retainer clips...wtf?!

Okay I have changed both wear rings, removed and reinstalled my superchargers. Changed my plugs, oil, and filter for both engines. Now for the life of me I cannot get the retainer clips back on the struts that keep my engine bay open, especially without dropping them in the bay again usually falling under the engine.

Is there a trick I dont know about to get these little bastards back on?

Hmmmm.... I've never removed the clips completely from the shock. I've always just use a screwdriver to pull them out just enough to remove the shock. It may be easier to get the clips installed with the shocks off of the boat (i.e. Not over the engine bay) and then snap them back on once the clips are back on the shocks. Maybe two pairs of needle nose pliers to spread the clip open enough to install?
