Hi All, I'm new here and new to boating, just got my first boat 1 week ago, didn't even use it, I got 2001 Seadoo Speedster, has the M2 mercury 240 engine, I drove 3 hours to the owner, to Orlando, did a test drive and all was fine, drove back, parked the boat, registered it and the trailer, took it out today and guess what?! it would start on the trailer, but not in the water, cranks but not fire, and I can smell gas smell from the engine....

anybody familiar with that issue or know what i'm doing wrong?

thanks

Any idea how fresh the battery is? The Merc's need full power. Do you know if the steering assist is hooked up? Steering assist ups the throttle a bit when turned to the stops when at low speeds/idle. To see if it works, start the boat in the trailer, then turn the wheel to the stop. If it revs up, it's hooked up. Typhoon the next time in the water, turn the wheel to the stop when cranking the engine and see if that helps.

Good luck,
Tim
