have a 99 challanger 1800 that the gas guage is not working , was given some help at this forum by kustomkarl to determine that the guage and the wiring to it from the sending unit are ok. pulled the sending unit to check the magnets and found only one float with two magnets in it. the bottom filter screen was in place and in good condition. kustomkarl mentioned four magnets in his post.could get no change on my ohmmeter when moving the magnet up und down the length of the tube. any ideas? i think i need a new sending unit.

PLease re-read that thread and the many other posts about fuel gauges.

The issue is not only whether the magnets are there, but whether the float still floats and doesnt sink, for one. There are other issues.

Pretty common problem. If the magnets are there, and you get no resistance when testing while tipping back and forth, your right fuel baffle needs to be replaced. The float could be bad, but even if the float doesn't float you should get resistance on the sender from your meter. Order a new baffle off ebay and ride away.
