I just bought my 1996 XP about 3 weeks ago. ran fine everything worked. about a week ago the gas gage stoped working. and all it shows is that its empty and the fuel light is on. every thing else works. is it the gauge?? it shows empty all the time even when full tank

Had the same thing happen to me about a month ago on my 98 GTX Limited. Sounds like its a common problem for Seadoos. I ended up replacing my fuel baffle. There are quite a few threads that discuss this issue. You might want to go back a few pages, as there are a couple of different solutions.

Good luck.

Most likely it is NOT the gauge. The most likely problem has to do with the fuel sender (fuel baffle).

The float could be filled up with fuel (instead of air) or the magnets on the float have fallen off.

The surface mount fuse could have blown - this can be bridged with a blob of solder or a short strip of wire and solder.

I have two 96 XP's and both were reading empty. I pulled the fuel sender on each and found that the floats were gone...the bottom screen cap had fallen off...somehow perhaps on a very empty tank, the floats fell out of the sender...magnets fell out of the floats as well. My skis don't have plastic floats...its a foam float with about 1/8" slot where the magnets are snug fit.

I siphoned the tanks...got hold of the floats and bottom caps...found the magnets...reinstalled everything again...bingo...working.
