I bought an extra garmin etrex vista the other day as a spare, but turns out it came with no maps loaded, no data cable.
I've never really gotten "into" any gps, just clicked a waypoint here and there over the years. but I need a dam basemap
has anybody ever updated maps before ?
is it really just as simple as buying the right cable, downloading a map and then connecting the pc and the gps ?
without spending hours doing it, can I input waypoints into my "map" then install it ? (didn't think vista could do that)
does it make sense maybe to update the maps on my primary gps ?
i checked those and they are 2001. pretty old, but the river is still there
just thought I'd ask, since it might make an interesting discussion.
I've been using gps as a navigation assist much more frequently lately, my group has made an effort the last few weeks to explore some area's we've ignored in the past, but on a little handheld its still pretty basic assistance but good enough to avoid getting off track and running out of fuel.
