I have a 98 GS and just replaced the battery. When I connected the terminals to the new charged battery nothing worked. I plugged the DESS lanyard in and no beeps. I checked the voltage on the battery and read 12.6. Next I checked the fuse box in the front and realized the 5amp fuse blew. I replaced it and it blew as soon as I inserted it. I took the black (-) terminal off the battery and inserted a 10amp fuse, then reattached the terminal and heard a pop as the 10amp fuse blew as well. Then I took the rear electrical box apart to check the 15amp fuse that was housed there and it was not blown. I have no idea what is wrong. Could someone help me and/or give advise. Ive run it with the hose hooked up and it just quit running. I thought it might have gotten overheated but water was flowing freely through the motor so I dont think that was the problem. Thanks

PM the guy on "ALL THINGS CUSTOM" he can help you out. he repairs mpem's. the fuse is blowing for one of two reasons because it happened to my firiend...either your stator went bad or your brain has a common problem alot of them get which needs to be repaired.

I contacted him, but I was wondering if there was a quick fix such as cleaning or drying out the stator if it was wet or something of that sort. I was trying to find another way then spending a lot of money. I mean does anyone know what it would actually be; other then the stator or MPEM?

Those 2 components are what are making the fuses blow. I would ask Mike, from "all Things Custom" what his thoughts are as he deals with this problem a lot.

there are no quik fixes. fastest it to buy a new mpem. also most expensive. mike does the 5-amp-blow repair. he also will tell you if that was the prob or not. the seadoo dealer will sell you mpem for about $300 and tell you "it's electrical-you're on your own. btw don't even think of returning it." the stator is a big pain-easiest done with motor out. wait till mike tells you it is prob before you start on that.

Trust Mike

I had the same problem with my MPEM. As soon as you placed the cables on the battery the 5 amp fuse would blow. Below is a test that you can do to verify if the problem is with your MPEM. Mike had me perform this test and then I sent it to him and he repaired it and sent it back. The Seadoo has been runnig great ever since.

This is the repair I do. The most common causes are jump starting the ski or running with a bad battery.

You sound handy with tools so the fastest way to test this is place a VOM from ground loop to the 5 amp fuse location or red wire.

A short indicates the MPEM is bad. An open indicates you have another problem. I can assure you that you have a short.

If you would like it repaired, please visit the ebay auction or you can just send it to me with a money order for $109.50.
