I am about to purchase a used 2008 Speedster 150 SC 215HP and wondered how much fuel does it use as compared to non-SC? Sorry if this question has been asked previously. Will a tank last all day with moderate driving? Any help would be appreciated in advance.

Regards

Well i can't speak for the 215hp but on my '08 155hp I typically get 5-6mpg at 30mph. With a 21 gal. tank that puts your range somewhere between 105-126 miles. Thats with 1 or 2 people, I haven't paid that much attention when I have had more people on board.

So I think it would be safe to assume that the 215hp will get a little less mpg with the supercharger.

Thanks alot SAF...that helps

I had the opportunity to pick between an '06 4-tech SC sportster(215 HP) for $6500 or an '04 4-tech Non-SC (155HP) sportster for $6300. After much research I found out all the problems with a supercharger (from dealers, boat mechanics, internet, etc.), which includes the faulty ceramic washers, the much more gas consumption, and the fact it uses high test gas only....to name a few. Since both my sons will be using the boat a lot (pedal to metal), I decided to go with the boat with less potential problems and headaches. I bought the '04 non SC.

Thanks Truth, I saw it (SC) as another failure point and agree with your reply. I am/was going to look at one this weekend from a seller and your input helps. Thanks for your time.

I have an 05 Sportster 215 4 tec SC ... you're going to be pushing being able to run around all day at moderate throttle on one tank. However, another thing to look at here ... if you plan on a 155 HP model and want to ski behind it with say 3 others in the boat, you'll be disappointed unless you're of small build.

So I guess it's sorta a trade off huh? I asked because some moron said here somewhere that it uses a full tank at close to full throttle for 2-3 hours.

Well that might be close to true. I don't know the WOT fuel consumption numbers but they could easily be double the amount at cruise. If you figure 5mpg at 30mph thats 6 gallons an hour. So your tank will last 3.5hrs. That would mean WOT would last for even less time. But who rides around at WOT all the time anyways?

"all day" is hard to determine since only you know your riding habits. Do you plan to literally ride non stop all day? Or do you ride a little, stop at the local sandbar, pull some skiers and go back to the beach? Some times all day on the water doesn't actually mean the boat is running all day.

I guess "moron" was too harsh...since I must be he? Lots of fuel, but so what I guess since it might be driven 10-15x per season for us. I looked at one over last weekend and it had a ding down to wood on back size of dollar coin and Bimini top cracked and seat almost torn from owner stepping in on the middle seat. I figured cost to repair would run $400 ding, $150 top, and $150 seat if I got a close match? He wanted $14,500, 13 hrs., 2nd owner, upgraded sound with Memphis amp, tower, 215 SC 09 model red. Passed the deal...

Thanks for the help and responses guys

I think you made the right decision. Way too high for that condition IMHO. Maybe another one will come along.

fuel consumption is kinda irrelevant from type to type as its the speed & range which changes. My boat will go through 5-6gph on average. Normally 50kph. WOT 2.5hrs will drain 100 lts.
cheers

i have owned a 155 a 215 and this summer got a new 09 255 at 30 mph there is no difference in fuel consumption but there is a huge power difference if that matters to you and yes they run on 87 octane fuel but at less power output if you pull throttle back when boat comes out of water sc will never be a problem

Thanks Ruby for your help

I have a 07 speedster 215 SC

I can easily burn a ful tank in a day if Im full throttle up and down the lake.

That being said... im an avid wakeboarder/skater that never rides with less than 2 others, (we like our beer too, ie big belly)
And if im just riding all day 22 MPH average.... it regularily takes 3 days to go through a tank

Thanks for your reply...thats more inline with waht I was thinking. Do you think new 09 is same as 10 as far as resale and such go? I mean, why buy 10 if 09 less due to year.
