Just purchased my 96XP. I have noticed a decently strong fuel smell under the seat. Everything is bone dry, and no signs of any leaks or marks to show ther aver was any fuel leaking. Is this normal? I don't think it's the exhaust i'm smelling, cause even after days of not being ran, it still is pretty noticeable.

I would follow the fuel vent tube from the fuel tank and see if it isn't the culprit. It might have a split in it from age. Give it a check and follow it.

Interesting...I smell gas in mine all the time. Never thought twice about it, since the tank is in the hull, etc.

Should I look at a vent tube?

I just try to keep my seat off and my hull open as much as possible to let it air out.

I bet it is the vent tube...I believe on that year doo it's routed in that direction.

Well i traced what i think is all the fuel lines. (all the grey ones coming from the fuel baffle) They all seem in great shape and terminate somewhere. (I.E. none are just hanging around not connected) So ya got me! Everything looks like it has been replaced at one time or another, so i don't think any hoses are drying out from age.

When i go out this weekend, i'll ask someone if i can smell theirs and see if it's the same way!! lol :)

Did you say "Grey" fuel lines? if so that might be your problem. Replace them, because they have been known to deteriorate from the inside out and plug up the carburetors. Bring a piece to Auto Zone and match it up size way.Tell them it is fuel line. Measure the length needed and get the correct length..or just a bit longer.

Yeah they are the grey ones.

Ok will do!!! Sounds like cheap insurance!!! Do i have to use the crimp clamps too, or can i use regular small hose clamps? Would this be a good time to change my fuel filter too??

Now you getting it ...I would use small clamps...use stainless type. They cost couple pennies more but worth it.
