Fuel sender hose clamps removal

I am getting ready to take my fuel sender out to fix the fuel gauge problem that is so common with this model seadoo. I am an aircraft mech. for over 13 years so this is somewhat embarassing to even ask this, but what is the quickest way to get this type hose clamp off? What tools do I need? I am asking because I just want to go in with the right equipment the first time and be done with this...The ohms on multimeter show 0.0, so it is going to be the fuel sender malfunction which requires removal..

The engine compartment looks grimy I know, so I did a thorough cleaning after the picture was taken.

Thanks everyone for your help!!

I used a plyiers on mine. I just squeezed them a little and then twisted. Only one was tight enough that I couldn't just slip the hoses off without taking the clamps off, then I replaced all those clamps with regular ones

To remove the fuel baffle remove the lower hose clamp...it needs a flat blade screwdriver. Remove the assy to get to the sensor assy. The smaller hoses will just slip off, and back on so need to remove the smaller clamps. Be sure to mark the hoses so as not to mix them up upon installing them. Sometimes the hoses are marked as is the top hose fitting assy...you have to look close to see the markings...vent, res,ect..

Thanks so much guys..so much better to go into a project prepared and get it right with minimal set-backs.. I'll probably use diffferent color nail polish to mark the fuel lines in correspondance to the sender unit outlets...

This forum is an absolute lifesaver...

Yeah you are right, BUT I said nail polish because it has that little brush to fit in the cramped area, whereas touch up paint is pretty expensive to buy just to use for this one project ..what do you think big jake..?? Doesn't that sound like a logical reason to save a bout 20 dollars on something...

calm down man, I was just joking around. The nail polish sounds like a great idea. This is an awesome forum for information but all the tech talk is pretty dry after reading 50 posts. Just trying to add a bit of levity, hopefully at least someone cracked a smile at my attempted joke. I could tell you about the time I used a thong as an emergency fan belt, I was chaffed for a week.
:biggrinjester:

Well the nail polish was cool, but I prefer lipstick...but I only have 3 colors I use...:ack:

Humor is ok, life is short...so should I send you my favorite colors?:rofl::rofl:

I've also found that tampons work great for sopping spilled oil out of the hull. Of course I've found you get more absorption from new ones. :ack:
But we are getting off topic...

Hey, who let this sick puppy join the forum, he is obviously quite disturbed. Just wish I could get these damn purple elephants out of my living room.

My preemptive apologies to anyone that does not have a sense of humor or who is not as demented as I am and takes offense to the above comments. They do not represent the opinion of myself, the forum or any other sane individual on the face of the earth. :chillpill:

By the way Tampax work the best

sorry about that man.. if you see my post time, it was getting near the end of the day at work ..that's when my BS tolerance had reached its low..didn't mean to take it out on you man..any way I got the fuel sender out and took the white float out. The magnets are still there, but just black and have a lot of build up on them. I don't know if this is the problem as I hooked my mulitimeter up to the fuel sender wires, and still got no reading.. I'm going to take some pics. and post them in a little bit… may be easier to just get a new fuel sender???

All I was getting when we tested for the resistance was 0.0001 or something really low like that no were near what the specs were telling us we should be getting. Also I didn't want to try to do the fix of cutting the top open to remove the fuse and sodering it so there is no fuse.

I just went to my local stearlership and oredered it (had it in 2 days). But after looking at the link on KustomKarls signature it's about $30 cheaper to get it from there.

I looked inside my fuel sender and all i can see is the baffle board. Do all these sender units have the F1 fuse at the top?

I'm not sure about all of them. But it would make sense if they all do.

I'm thinking about opening my old one this week to see if it does and possibly doing that soder trick so I have a back up incase the new one breaks

good thinking.. I am going to do the same..i have nothing to lose... Even with the multimer connected and my old float in.. I got no reading.. so I am going to do the solder trick and get a new float before I buy a new sending unit...

In the how to link about this I wonder why they cut open the top part of the fuel sender? Is there a fuse there too??

He cut the first opening just to look for were that F1 fuse was.

When I went to the dealership they told me that if the float will stick to a screwdriver the magnets in the float are good enough to work with the resisters in the pick up tube. So you can try that trick too before buying the new float.

F1 fuse solder worked!!!

I went home after work took the float out and put it into a jar of gas and it came to the top..I cleaned it really good and put it back in the baffle and nothing..So I decided to try the solder F1 fuse trick. I soldered the link on the board and put the float back in and i 'll be damned...it worked!!! Now just got to put it in again, but I'm really tickled that this work!! I'm getting readings of 0.4 to 8.9 ohms on the multimeter, so this should do the trick...:

Once again this forum saved the day!:hurray:

Bottom cut away.. It's just a matter of time before yours will go out probably.. You can go to this thread when it does..
