Fuel pump?

Should I be able to hear my fuel pump? Is it like a car, put the key and hear the pump run before I start it? Or does it run after/ same time that the engine,turns over? Thanks, Dan.

Are you sure its not the bilge pump?

Your boat has the 787 engine, right? If so, there is no fuel pump that is activated when powered up.

Thanks. Very new to this, was trying to get it to start today and when it wouldn't I realized I hadn't heard a fuel pump turn on and thought that was the problem. Now I see that there aren't electric fuel pumps on these engines. I got the right engine to start after putting in new plugs, I'll have to buy a set for the left engine tomorrow, I was kind just playing with it today. Also have to charge up the battery. Is it normal to have 4 or 5 positive cables and three grounds? Thanks again, feeling kind of dumb.
