On the 1998 Sportster 1800 did they replace the fuel valve with the fuel pump or eliminate the fuel valve? Is there a way to trouble shoot the issues in my other post (engine bogging @ 3500 rpm)without throwing parts at it? thanks guys.

I have the same problem the engine cutting off at 3500 RPM's, did you ever find an answer? In addition, the same engine has a hard time starting and sometimes won't start in the water and it will flood and not restart.

Engine stalls at 3500 rpms on 1800 Seadoo Sportster

The carbs have already been rebuilt, starter has been replaced and switched carbs.... to still have same problem. Also, this is a brand new engine.

The muffler was switched....could this be the problem that sometimes won't start under load?

If it's truly "Flooding"... then the carbs aren't right. Also... if the rebuild was done with an aftermarket N&S, or regulator diaphragm... it will have all kinds of issues.

Secondly... regardless of it being a "New" engine... have you verified the compression? Have you verified the rotary valve clearance, and if it's in time?

Finally... if it's not flooding... but it's hard to restart... have you checked for air leaks in the fuel system? Remember... the pump has to draw fuel... so a small leak will keep it from pulling fuel. Especially at cranking speed.

As the good Dr said, rebuilding the carb fixed my issue. I used a OEM Mikuni rebuild kit, checked the pop off pressure and did a air leak/pressure check on the fuel system.. Its ran great since then, so good I'm pulling the other carb soon and rebuilding it before putting her up for the winter..

Well I had the same issue and I rebuilt the carbs twice just to find out the it had to be in drive for the engine to rev over 3500 Rpms, the computer won't let it over rev in unless it is in forward. That day I really felt stupid! The computer kills the engine at 3500 and floods the plugs..so just a thought...I would have never of. Thought

I have the same boat and the same problem...I rebuilt the carb twice myself and even the seadoo dealer twice...still the problem is there so its not the carb....the other cab is great no problem on that motor...I can't figure it out.... there is no air leaks in the fuel lines..compression is good.....I know there is a check valve in the fuel pump accelerator....this is the only part I haven't replaced...I also switched carbs and the problem is still there...re did all lines, connections, fuel filters, etc....still no go...ill keep you posted on my work and please let me know about yours.

Sure does sound like the mem is having issues, can you switch the cable connections comming from the mem? Not sure if they are that long since I only have a single engine

Not sure....but its fuel related I'm sure just not carb....I gotta pump the fuel handle around 3500 rpms or the engine will stall...that's why I'm thinking the check valve in the fuel pump accelerator....like posted above they stated maybe its flooded and hard to restart....I think my issue is that its not getting enough fuel...check valve is getting stuck closed n not opening...till I pump it several times and once started the fuel flows through.....not sure gonna really tear into this winter...I'm down in Florida so I got plenty of boating time left...
