when i removed the fuel pump to replace small fuel filter between pump and carb, i saw a lot of wear on the diaphram and clear gasket on fuel pump cover. Decided to replace these also. When removing the clear plastic gasket?? there seemed to be another soft/paper gasket between the clear piece and the pump cover. Am I mistaken? I can't find that piece in any parts catalog or exploded diagrams of the carbs nor can any parts deal seem to understand what I am asking for...

Tript me out also, find'n that gasket...if rebuild'n carbs, i'd by the kit, then piece'n it. You have (2)BN-40I sq. body carbs

plastic gaskit. was it a plastic film that the paper gaskit had on it? I believe I have seen them many years ago. If I am not mistaken the plastic film may have been part of the paper gaskit over time the plastic film sepirated. I do not think the plastic film is very important. new kit may not even have one.

Mikuni Carbs...

On the pump body assembly, there are 2 round clear plastic diaphragm's, one on either side of the assemlby. Then, you have 2 pump gaskets and 1 "0" ring (one gasket on the BN-38).

So, if your seeing more than that, it doesn't belong there. If your following a manual, please send a link or page number so I can check it for accuracy.

thanks for all that input...and yes the boats are 1996's and it seems that there was a paper like piece attached to the clear acetate piece...the replacement kit only has the clear one that seems to go between the pump cover and the pump, and the rubber diaphram and the o ring..so i guess where the scraps of paper gasket that was left on the pump cover i will just carefuly remove and reassemble with the new parts....I have also replaced all fuel lines...is there a priming of the fuel system that I need to do prior to attempting a restart??? thanks again

Choke....

Not really, with your pulse line to the carb and your choke, you should be able to suck the fuel into the carb(s) fairly easily. Just don't run your starter for anymore than 30 seconds at a time. If it takes more than 3 attempts, feel the battery cables to make sure they aren't getting hot.

But it should prime by then..............good luck.
