I've read about the float being an issue, previous owner mentioned they changed the float to a newer one. But here is my question, with my tank being about 1/2 full, my gauge actually reads full? Thoughts on what to check?

Good question, guess I haven't owned it long enough to know....

If it does, what would that suggest - that its working as good as it can?

sound like to me and I'm no boat tech. but may be the internal tape switch. could have a short somewhere in it.

The float has 2 magnets on it as it go's up and down there is I circuit board it rides against that is how it measures your fuel level. the magnet pulls on the circuit board as it travel.

to see it remove your fuel baffle from the tank on the bottom of the baffle there is a cap filter held in by tabs push tabs in pop out cap and the float will come out and you will see the tape switch inside.

and no I just replaced it in my boat with a new one because my baffle was fried.

Guess that is the same thing I need to do. Mine is lower than 1/2 a tank and still reads full. Are there instructions anywhere on how to pull the full pump assembly from the fuel tank and check for things that may be bad in my situation?

Found out its my gauge that is bad. If I wiggle the wires around on the harness that attaches to the fuel gauge, it works as it should. Going to see if I can find the same gauge used in working order...

Fuel/low oil gauge question…

On the back side of the fuel/low oil gauge (P/N 204470144) on my 1998 Seadoo Sportster 1800 there is a little dial I can rotate clockwise or counter clockwise. Any idea what that is for? Is it to adjust how the fuel gauge takes a reading from the baffle/fuel pick up float so it reads more accurately when the tank is full, ¾, ½, ¼, and empty?

My fuel gauge was always reading full, so I removed the baffle/fuel pickup from the fuel tank, the float did have a little gas in it – but not much nor was it stuck, so it still floated in the gas. I checked with an ohm meter to see if it changed depending on where the float (newer style float) was in the baffle and the numbers did change. So, after wiggling around the wire harness in the back of the fuel gauge I could make the fuel gauge change depending on where the float was in the baffle – but it doesn’t seem all that accurate.

Hoping you might know if the accuracy of that fuel gauge can be adjusted with that little dial on the back of the gauge (takes a small flat head screwdriver)!

I wondered this too. I had the some adjuster on the back of my speedometer. I was trying to tune it using that to get the speed to match my GPS. what ever changes I made just made it worse. I eventually gave up and put it back to what it was. Let us know if you have luck adjusting it.

Got my original to work, where the wires plug into the back of the fuel gauge I "shimmed" it with toothpicks. Seems to work now. And the adjuster in the back of it does adjust fuel level as well!
