Got the boat home from Karl's house, and we LOVE IT!!!:hurray::hurray::hurray:

Only problem I can find on it is the fuel gauge won't work. It shows EMPTY when powered on, needle is in the red.

When powered off, needle drops below the red.

Is this a connection issue, faulty gauge, or do I need to look at the in-tank level sender?

Sounds like a very common isue. and I am willing to bet that it is the sending unit. and with a hour or two labor and a couple of dollors it can be repaired.

That is what I was hoping...:)

Is it "fixable" or should I just order a new sending unit and swap them out?

In this order, the possibilities are:
1. bad float (in the tank baffle)
2. bad sender board (in the tank baffle)
3. bad connection
4. bad gauge

Very good point Robin:

1. bad float - sinks instead (in the tank baffle)
2. dropped a magnet from float (in the tank baffle)
3. bad sender board (in the tank baffle)
4. bad connection
5. bad gauge

Yes that is close to the order I was thinking allso. I was thinking the float may be full of fuel first of all but I believe that you covered it all.

Thanks for the help guys.

I need to clarify I am in NO way upset with the deal we made on this boat. It is a GREAT boat, we have been having a wonderful time with it. So just because this gauge wiggled loose somewhere over the past 1500 miles of towing doesn't mean that we are unhappy in any way with it.

So please don't think that Karl sold me a broken boat...it is VERY far from that!!!
