Fuel gauge issue

I just bought 2 older gti's, one of them works great so far and the other seems to be fine. The 2000 gti fuel gauge seems to have a issue. First it does not give a reading on the level of fuel, second the oil idiot light does not turn off. I've looked over other posts and will try to check the sending unit later today. My question is this, does the oil idiot light being on and the fuel gauge not giving a reading tell me anything at all ? I know the thing has Oil in the mixing tank I can see it. Second question, I want to take them out to give them a run tomorrow, with that light being on could it mean that oil is not mixing with the fuel ? The last think I want to have happen is to burn up the engine :(

Oil light......

No, the idiot light and the fuel tank sensor have nothing to do with each other. Look on your oil tank and you should see 2 wires coming from it. There should be a connector close to it. Unplug it and see what happens. Then plug it back up.

The connector may have a little corrosion in it and need cleaned. After cleaning, put some die electric grease on the electric contacts before snapping them back together.

You'll need to review the threads on the fuel sensor too.

Wow, I had one of those days... I thought I would take my skies out and run the fuel out of both of them so I could start fresh for the year. The goal was to empty the tank so I could clean the magnets in the fuel sending unit. At the end of the day I found a major issue with the oil tank. There seems to be a huge leak in the tank where the oil heads out to the engine. Here is the question, the manual does not really show how the drain spout attaches to the tank. Is there a way to tighten it ? Also due to the fact I most likely need to pull the fuel tank should I pull the oil tank as well and replace gaskets and hoses ?

Fuel sensor - Where is it located?

I recently purchased a 97 GTX and the owner told me that the fuel gauge did not work. I am thinking its probably the fuel sensor that went out. Is that the problem and if so where is it located?

The larger (1 inch) fitting is sealed with a rubber grommet that can go bad over time. This link will help with this as well as provide some reference for oil leaks at hoses at the engine.http://www.seadooforum.com/showthread.php?t=437

You're hi-jacking this thread. But to answer your question, you should start reading up here for the fuel sender issue->http://www.seadooforum.com/showthread.php?t=5826

Usually the sender is what goes, unless you can see water in the gauge. I took my SPI out and the fuel gauge didnt work. At the same time, i was blowing the 5 amp fuse inside the computer. so being a moron, i put a larger fuse in the 5A spot. Sure enough, the fuse didnt blow, but the already broken fuel gauge melted and started smoking!
