I have a 1994 Seadoo Explorer that we are almost done restoring. We already dropped a rebuilt motor in her and and have had the upholstery redone. She is looking good. Now to my question....

The fuel gauge is not working and when the key is connected we are not getting the traditional beep. The seadoo run like a champ but it would be nice to know how much gas she has left.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Chris Edwards

Both things are known issues... the old floats sink... and the old buzzers die.

So....

The new style float is blow molded, and is much better. Just replace it... and there is a 90% chance it will work again.

The factory buzzer is almost $50. You can get a unit from radio shack, that will work... for about $10. (lots-O-threads on that)

Yea, just don't make sure you make the mistake I did. I didn't know what 2-Tone meant and figured it would just make the beeps that I know and love. Nope, it's 2-tones alternating, and there is no way to make it one. Waste of $10 :/

Hu ???

The big beeper from RS has both a solid, and 2-tone lead. Just hook it to the solid. (consent) Or did you buy one that was only 2 tone?

unfortunately, I bought the 2-tone one. Only two wires coming out of this unit. What's worse is I bought three of them and got them online where I could not return them. I"m thinking of at least using one on my GTS, which only uses the beeper for the overheat sensor.

I replace the fuel gauge and the beeper. Neither are showing or beeping anything. Seadoo runs like a champ. What wires would I check for voltage to see if something has become disconnected? I opened the MPEM and the fuses are all in good shape.

Thanks,

Chris

Well, the beepers quit working on most skis at some point. I had to replace all of mine with a radio shack equivalent. The fuel gauges stop working because the ethanol in today's fuels soaks into the float and allows it to sit at the bottom of the tank. There is a $20 plastic replacement out there that fixes this problem. I would hold off on replacing the fuel gauge itself as it's a pretty reliable piece of equipment. The way to check it is to pull the fuel pickup baffle and allow the magnetic float to rise to the top with the key on. You should see the fuel gauge go to FULL. Good luck.
