Fuel / Gas Smell 2002 GTX

I have a 2002 GTX (not DI or RFI). I cleaned the inline fuel filter and put it back. Now whenever I open the seats it really smells of fuel vapour. I have checked the connections and everything appears tight. I can't see any fuel leaks either.

Any suggestions on what to check? I have read to check the check valves, are these the ones located in the bow near the water line? The schematic seems to show two of them. Just take them off and blow air through them? Or do they vent out the top near the steering?

Thanks for your replies.

I'll answer my own question.

There are two check valves on my 2002 GTX (not DI or RFI). There is one near the water line and one up near the fuel selector switch, both near the bow. The upper one lets air in and the bottom one lets vapours, water etc I guess out. The bottom one was clogged with what appears to be varnishy gas. Once I blew it out with an Air Compressor (the lines were disconnected) I replaced the grey lines with the black ones (Parts Source only had black Fuel Injector Lines) and new SS hose clamps.

Fingers crossed the smell isn't so bad anymore.

I intend to replace the rest of the fuel grey lines in the fall.

hi tdog here and Im having problems. My 2006 seadoo sportster 215hp "REEKS of GAS Bad " but runs good. Why such a strong odor of gas.Is this normal or DANGEROUS???

Dangerous....

If you can smell heavy gas fumes in your hull, you can build up a concetration till you create an explosive condition. These engines and fuel systems are designed to not leak, even when turned upside down. So, you need to find the source of your fuel leak before you have an explosion.
