Fuel gage problem on a 98 GTX LTD

I can't get the fuel gage to work on my 1998 GTX LTD. I've tried several different used fuel baffles and still can't get it to show a fuel level on the ditigal display. Everything else on the display works. Can you tell me what to check and how to check it?

Magnet falling out of float in fuel baffle is most common problem. are you sure all the used baffles had their magnet? if so it is probally guage. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7dD0_RuZYTE&feature=related

Wiring...

Or a wiring short somewhere along the way. Usually in a plug connector.
