Frequency of carb rebuilds

Hi all,

I have a 98 GTXL that was rebuilt last year… engine, carbs(OSD back to OEM), lines, etc… It has about 20hrs on the rebuild. It had been running great last year…

This year it was initially running great but on a long ride it started bogging at about 45 mph… acting like it wasn’t getting fuel… the tank is about half full… after fussing with the throttle up/down I was able to get it to go faster… but I don’t have confidence for another long ride…without knowing what the problem is.

How often should the carbs be rebuilt?
I’ve preemptively ordered a Mikuni carb rebuild kit.

I’m following, will be interested to see what everyone thinks. I could say with confidence that you shouldn’t need to rebuild annually. I had a wet jet with Yamaha motor, never rebuilt the carbs in 10 years.

Anything can happen while sitting. Most of my carbs were rebuild 5-10 years ago and working perfectly.

Tx guys! Do you use fuel stabilizer? I didn’t and haven’t for any of my other 2 stroke tools… but perhaps these are fussier…
How often do you change the external filter?

Myself, I try and stabilize the fuel in all my small engines and 2 stroke engines but there have been years I’ve not gotten around to it and all was well. I do however run supreme fuel with no ethanol in all these engines and I think the no ethanol fuel stores better. Which external filter are you referring to? The stock fuel filter/water separator? I never change it, I do change the o-ring in it or pressurize it to make sure it’s not leaking

Yes, all stock. Referring to fuel/water separator.
