free ski but sunk

I just scored a sea doo gti le sunday for free. Only bad thing is that it was sunk. I was going to send the motor off and have it rebuilt and get a one year warranty for around $650. My question is do I have anything else to worry about with a ski that was sunk besides the motor? Also Im new here by the way. Thanks George

You know if you are going to be working on a project Seadoo like this, you should consider upgrading to a Premium Membership for access to the shop manuals with detailed technical information.

I'd check the electrical box for water infiltration and methodically clean and inspect every electrical connection......starter, solenoid, fuses, terminals.

You should rebuild the carbs to go with your new engine. And drain/clean the fuel and oil tank reservoirs.

Take pictures of your work and visit here often for updates and advice!

hmmmmm.....

Ok i pulled the motor out of the ski today...the story is that it sunk 2 years ago and just sat. Well there was still water in the motor. It looks great inside. :lols: Im only 17 but I have never seen anything worse then this. I bet the piston is coroded to the cylinder wall. Im not ever sure if its a good core...o well get what I pay for I guess. Heres some pics.

Im thinkin about just finding a motor I can buy without a core and savin this one and possibly trying to rebuild it for a spare....well see. What do you think?

I found a guy that will rebuild it for around $750 and warranty it for a year. The warranty covers everything and I mean everything! If it sunk again or i forgot to put oil in it then its covered. But while I have the motor out anything else I should replace? Im new to wave runners but I think theres a seal, i read in another thred that will burn up if you run the ski for more then 5 min out of the water. Should i replace this while Im at it? And I was going to have a look at the impeller and replace the wear ring also. Thanks for anything. George
