So with both of my Seadoo lanyards totally shot where the plastic coating is splitting and leaving the string exposed, I wanted to replace the lanyard but did not want to pay the price to have a new one programmed. Found these on Ebay and bought two of them. You just cut off the DESS key and snap it on the new Atlantis lanyard. The coating on the string is not as thick as the Seadoo one and it stretches easier but for the price I could not pass up..

Also added one of these wrist straps to the lanyard from Amazon and I am all set!

What do you snap it to? The plastic coated cable that you just cut off or the whole dess unit??

Post a pic of your idea.

You cut the dess key off of the seadoo lanyard and it snaps into the stainless clip in the picture. The other end of the Atlantis lanyard has a plastic clip to connect to your pfd or to a wrist strap like in my second link. It is about 15 degrees in Columbus Ohio right now and not motivated to go out to the garage to get mine off my Seadoo to post a pic!!!!! Maybe tomorrow!

I would get rid of the stainless steel clip and replace it with about a 3/4" stainless steel key ring.

I did the same thing last year, I love the wrist straps, find it alot easier then clipping it to your vest. I had Minnetonka program all my keys and MPEM's last year, now it doesnt matter what key is used for any seadoo. The old style ones are now spares.

GREAT Idea Lou! THANKS!!!! I was concerned when I ordered about what if the key slipped off of the clip. I was very surprised on how tight the tension is on the stainless clip but I will change it over the the ring.

Kicker, How many dess keys can each MPEM support.

SDB, if there is a limit, its high enough to not be a factor for a standard user, but maybe nick might chime in on that if he knows.

for those DIY guys, you can make a lanyard out of weed eater line, there are a couple of threads on other sites showing how to make a homemade lanyard by boiling the line around a wooden dowell to make a coil, then attaching the ends to the key & clip, cost would be minimal to do that. can't hotlink it but if you search you'll find it, there was a full thread on it on pwctoday.

Yup sabr is right....a key can be programmed to as many machines you want, but a MPEM can only handle 8 keys total.

As far as replacement teathers...I like to buy the non DESS teathers (or the ones the OP posted), push the floatie back and pry the clamp open. Its not tough. Then you can insert the DESS key directly onto the teather w/o the clip or a key ring.
