Forgot to winterize! Scrap or fix?

Hey I am new to the forum and need advice...

Last winter I let my seadoo freeze before I had a chance to winterize it (I know, I know-- DUMB).

When I took it into winterize the dealership didn't complete it because they said that then started to "water shot out of it straight up to the ceiling".

I was frustrated at the time and didn't pursue what my options were... but not sure I'd trust the dealership, they might see dollar signs.

So... am I ^&*%() or should I fix, if so where do I start?

THANKS in advance

Hi,

You really didn’t give us any info. Is it an old beater, or is it a newer Doo? If it was a beater… part it out… if it was a newer, or at least a non-beater… then look on ebay, and get the parts you need, and get it running.

Just because you didn't winterize it doesn't mean anything is wrong with it. Many people don't winterize their boats and just hop on them next spring.

I think he said water shooting out to the celing... sounds like it was swamped and did nothing....

If thats the case, pour some marvel mystery oil in the cylinders, cross all your toes and fingers for 48 hours at least... when the cramps are unbearable (fingers and toes)then go try to turn it over by tapping the starter.

You may get this season out of it but if the crank is rusted you are done for and will be replacing the motor....

Well, if water shot to the ceiling, then at least things are still moving, and that is a pretty good start. At least it isn't seized.

I guess if it isn't too old of a machine, the the rest is in good shape, a rebuild or engine replacement could be in order.

I just put a NOS motor in my boat, and I have to admit that yesterday was one of the most pleasant trips I have had ever. No worries about engine problems because motor is new, and break-in period is just over. I have about 15-18 hours on the new motor so I don't have to worry about anything being put together or built wrong, and since it is new I am not worrying about anything being worn out. Just like having a new boat after you have worked out the new-boat-bugs :hurray:
