Dropped the skis in the water today. I parked the truck, ate my sandwich, checked emails, and had a cold coke. By the time I walked back down to the ramp my daughter and her friend were waving at me feverously as the skis slowly sank in the water. Great job Dad! I forgot to put the drain plugs in before launching them.

I quickly got them to the ramp and onto the trailer Drained the water out. Pulled the plugs, started the engine, and blew the water out of the cylinders. Put new plugs and after a few tries, they started right up. We ran both skis for about ten minutes before loading them back on to the trailer.

Should I be doing anything else to the engine to prevent rust or anything? It was a freshwater lake. The engine compartments were FULL of water.

Thanks.

To be honest, the best thing you can do with them is to run them hard for an extended period of time. Make sure anything that requires grease is topped off, and take those things out and beat on them a bit... The idea is to get them good and hot so that any moisture left behind will turn to steam and get expelled through the exhaust.

When you’re done, it’s always a good idea to fog them real good, but the most important part is to get them out and run them...

Thanks. I will get some fogging oil after dinner. We just ran them for about an hour.

I assume I should remove the spark plugs and spray fogging oil directly into the cylinders?

I appreciate your advice.

To be safe you should spray it into the carbs when running to get the crank and crank bearings. Spraying into the spark plug holes to get the cylinders.
