I have a 1998 gtx limited and the gauge lenses always fog up so I drilled a small hole in the bottom, it drains out the water but still fogs. I noticed that there are two lenses one on the the gauge and another one on top of that for protection I think. Can I take off this outer lens to solve the problum or is there something else I can do to solve the fogging.

In the side picture of the lens you can kind of see the two lenses.

In the other picture you can see how the lens fogs up and I can't see it.

Any help would be great

Inert gas?

The reason for two lenses is because an inert gas is sealed between them, to keep them from fogging. By driling the hole, you lost that gas. Although, seeing the moisture to begin with shows the seal was already lost.

The only solution I can think of would be to remove the gage, reseal the outer edges with a clear epoxy and where you have that hole now, use an inert gas, like argon, to inject it into the hole for a few seconds and then quickly reseal before atmospheric are gets back inside.

The moisture (fogging) is caused from condensation from the ambient air. Get the ambient air out from between the two glasses and the fogging problem should stop.

If you remove that outer glass, your opening the gage to the elements and will likely be ruined in a season or two.

Yeah I think that would work but, I could see water sitting in the lenses and they were already fogged up befor I drilled the hole, so I think the gas was already out, and the dealer I brought it to to get winterized said to drill a hole in it.
