Should I be afraid of buying a 1999 speedster 16 boat for my first jet boat for weekend pleasure riding? Dealer says it’s in excellent running condition

Depends on the dealer I guess. The big issue is... they really don't know the condition or history. All they know is that it runs. Also, knowing that it's at a dealer... I'm going to assume they are asking a premium price for it.

I personally wouldn't buy a 19 year old boat from a dealer.

With that said... how much are they asking?

$6000

Unless they are also giving you a warranty of some kind... it's not worth it. I've seen the 16' Speedster, and the "SK" versions local... in good condition... with a bunch of stuff (life jackets, fire extinguisher, anchor, inflatables... basically everything the last owner had) for $4000~$4500.

$6k is an OK price, assuming it's 100% perfect. (no fading, major gouges, no electrical issues, or bad gauges) Also... for that price... since it's a premium price... I would want a water test.

Oh... and just because it starts on the trailer, does not mean that it will run in the water. (with a load on the system)

SO... assuming it's great, and they allow a water test... I would consider it. Otherwise... I would pass.
