I've owned a 03 Sportster 4tec since new. Its been a great experience until the other day when a friend somehow managed to get the ski rope wrapped around his fingers. The jet sucked up the rope and he lost a finger tip. Be careful with the ropes!

Man, that is two odd occurences happening at the wrong time.:ack:

Ropes get sucked up all the time. Fingers get twisted in them all the time.

Were they able to salvage the finger and reattach it?

But just to reiterate. These are boats. And you need to watch yourself and all passengers and others in the vicinity when you are messing around with boats.

Agreed. These are gasoline powered, high horsepower engines. Bad things can happen very quickly.

Yet... many people think nothing of having their under-10 year old children mow the grass using a 5HP gas engine spinning a SHARPENED METAL BLADE at hundreds of RPM's. If kids don't have that much judgement, how smart can that be?!?

Wow, I am so glad I saw this never even thought of that possibility. I will always make sure the engines are off when I am winding up the rope! Thank-you for posting.

Wow. That's crazy. I've wondered this before. Especially if a rope was around an arm or leg and a person got pulled under the boat. Glad I keep a sharp knife close.

If a gas-powered engine grabs a rope that is wrapped around your (fill in the blank) you will not have time to get to, and/or use the knife.

Only I drive so I hope I could be quick enough. I have sucked a rope up once. Now I'm super cautious. Will definately be more after this thread.
