Yes... use zip-ties on the grease boot. If you use big stainless clamps, it will be off balance. (that part spins)

Those washers were your shims. I hope you remember what went where. If you get the pump out of alignment, you can bend the drive shaft.

there was only two washers and they were on the top 2 studs, do they come in differant thicknesses or are they just regular washers?

Where can I buy or rent the alignment tool? I getting a new engine this winter and pump so I will need one anyway. How much is the tool?

osdparts.com

I don't know if he's still renting tools or not.

Personally... what I would do, is to buy the tool from SBT, and use it. It's about $149. Then... you can sell it easy, and quick for about $100. If you "Rent" it from SBT, it will cost you $75 plus shipping. So, selling it will cost you less. I bet if you post it here for $100 + ship... it will be gone in less that a day.

You can get shims... but regular washers will work too. Personally... I use alignment shims that are open on one end. You can get a pack cheap at any auto parts stores.

OK. Ty again drhonda. I'm gonna buy it and keep it. Rent it out for free to fellow brothers. They pay shipping. Try to give back for all you guys helping me

you will find yourself using it more than you think! Good deal!
everytime you change a carbon seal or drive shaft, you could check it, simple enough. The engine compartment is hot and these old mounts do sag ans get out of shape... it`s always a good idea to grab the header pipe and give it a pull every now and then, you would would know the health of the mounts and if one let go... But cavitation and water leaking would also be a symptom... good luck, let us know how you made out!

So will this alignment tool also tell me if I need to pug washers between the pump and hull? There was one on the top stud on both sides but who knows if they were put there to line up the motor or used as a wedge for the nozzle. Cause even though the drive line is lined up you can use the washers to shim the pump down or did I read that thread wrong?

I`m not sure, I read the same. seems the washers/shims are from the factory to aide in pump placement due to hull variations I would think. I don`t believe it has anything to do with wedge/angle for the exit nozzle... but then again... sorry I could be more helpful...

did you forget to mark their placement or loose them?

argh, now I can`t find where I read that...
