I have been having some problems with my 97 xp. I found the problem, it was the exhaust hoses that connect the pipe to the water box. Both ends had holes in the hoses. So I replaced the two with simular hose from oreillys , I used reinforced filler neck hose for a fuel tank. The ski ran perfect after replacing the hoses. Well after riding for the day it blew the sides of the hoses out again then wouldnt run again. Has anyone else had this problem before?
Is it a special type of hose or is something else causing it to do that?

I had the same problem on my 96 gtx. The hose gets weak after time and eventually gets a hole or two. It needs to be a pretty durable hose because exhaust is going through it. I went to a hydraulic shop in my town and got a black silicon hose. It was rated for like 150psi and I havent had a problem with it yet. Just make sure you bring the old one so you get the right size. Hope this helps.

:agree: silicone hose can handle high temps. If you continue to have problems than it will be a water injection problem.

How would I track down a water injection problem? It does have the stream of water comming out the side of the hull while running.

The cooling system is pumping if a stream is coming out the side...but it could be semi-blocked if it isn't getting all it needs. Check all the elbows and fittings to be sure it isn't blocked or restricted. Don't mix up the elbows as the are specific for the flow needed at that particular area.

Well I put on some silicone hose today and it worked out great. Thanks for the help.

I had the exact same problem! I bought a 1ft peice of Trident Silicone wet/exhaust hose(blue and red) from Blue Water Ship Store. 1ft is enough to replace it 4 times, but so far the first one has held up for over a year and showing no signs of weakening! Only draw back is that it is about $25.00 per foot. Worth every penny in my opinion.

$25 a foot? sounds like $6.25 a repair. i don't think the dealer will beat that price. do you remember the hose size? (diameter)?

My 97 SPX is doing this too, just blew out a brand new hose. (see my other thread). The guys who sold it to me was told that it is designed to blow this hose out before it damages anything. I"m getting water out the little telltale hose in the back but wonder if something is clogged and causing too much exhaust pressure to build up.

How can I check the RAVE water valve on the top of my water box to make sure it is working correctly?

Hose Melting

All of the post I've read about the 2 inch dia. connector hose between the pipe and waterbox problem tells me that the water regulator on the muffler( waterbox) has a bellow ( inside regulator) that is blown. This will cause the connector hose to overheat.

I tore in to mine tonight and found two things.

1. The two inch hose was melted on the inside.

2. The spring inside my rave water valve on the water box was broken. I took the valve apart and cleaned it and will try to get a new spring tomorrow.

So are you saying there is a bellow is inside the waterbox and therefore the entire water box will need to be replaced? Or is the bellow inside the rave valve on the top of the water box?

I believe that he is refering to the water regulator as this is what the pros thouht was wrong with mine untill they found out that I did not have one. But I can asure you of one thing Dennis has some very good info for you. :agree:

In dissasembling, cleaning and reassembling the rave water valve it looks like the broken spring may have allowed the exhaust pressure to open the valve beyond the intended point that allows water to flow. It felt like if it opens too far it actually closes off again so it may not have been getting water. The 2" hose was definitely melted pointing to too much heat and not enough water. Once I get the proper spring back in it I'll go run it again to see how it does.

Thanks for all the advice please keep it coming!!

Water Valve

The bellow that I'm referring to is inside the water valve (not the water box). It's a rubber diaphram and if it has a hole or is torn then water flow to the rear of your exhaust system will not be correct. If this diaphram looks good then the broken spring is the problem. Make sure you can blow thru the small hose that connects to the valve. The cooling water leaves the valve, goes thru the small hose and then into the exhaust pipe to cool it. Make sure this hose and fitting on the exhaust pipe are clear of debris.
Good luck, DAWG

P.S. THANKS ROBIN
