Exhaust pipe has a hose connected to it.

Hi guys just putting new fuel lines on my 97 GTX and I noticed a hose attached on the exhaust port for some sort of exit. Anyway it’s filled with sand way under the motor. What is it for? It seems I have to pull the motor to clean it? What can I do. TIA

Strange picture. Off-Hand I think the only water outlet that comes from the engine to the rear of the ski is the one that connects to the lower cylinder drains. There is a TEE and they hose in question connects to it. I could understand that line getting sand in it and that is a bad thing. Before the sand gets in the line, he had to get into the engine cooling passages. There is a tee connecting these 2 cylinder drains and the bottom of that tee is where the hose connects. Good Luck

So the hose attaches to the exit port on the side of the exhaust. But come from under the motor. I’m thinking it’s a drainage from the oil injector maybe? It’s packed with sand. I launch at the beach everyday. I’ve been getting the sand out slowly but I can’t get to the bottom of the hose where it attaches. Thanks

After further sticking fun cleaner rods down the hose I got most of the sand out. All but maybe 10 inches. Then off of your message I decided to fire the machine up and the pressure in the system with engine and water running through the hose cleared it self. So I think you’re correct. But I can see the Y connection on the heads. I’ll keep learning. Thank you.

Also I’m not sure how the sand got in there without going through the system. It’s clear now and I’ll not run the machine near the sand if possible. Thanks again.

People don't understand you can't start the ski up in shallow water. I'd bet there is still sand in your engine. Hopefully it doesn't cause any problems. I Pulled this engine apart a couple years ago. I thought it was jelly fish in there. LOL Good Luck

I use the ski for toe surfing so we do ride close to the beaches. I’ll make an effort to always make sure the water is coming out that port is clear. Seems a whole lot better now. Not sure how long it’s been like that. Appreciate all the advise. Cheers.

I’ll look it up. I’m heading to the states in a few days and that’s where I pick up parts for the old beast. They don’t have any parts for old skis here in Indonesia. At least not easy to find. Thanks again.

Oh wow.... see how we take things for granted in the US. I have to remind myself.
I've seen these on the intake of some jet skis. I would buy this one but it's just to give you an idea of what I am talking about. The ones I saw had not filter it them so it was just a knock-out pot. Don't know how good they work. I"ve never seen one with sediment in it. LOL Take Care.

You need to flush the cooling system after every ride in the surf to get the sand and salt water out.

I also install these strainers in the cooling line from the pump.
