Has anyone ever successfully welded a crack in the second pipe in the exhaust manifold assy. The pipe cracked around the hole for the bolt to go through at the apex of the exhaust assy. (three holes have bolts inserted, one has a mounted bolt, it's the mounted bolt hole) I am going to try and have it welded. Waste of time or worth a try????

Hey Pt, remember that the material is "cast aluminum" so before it can be welded at all it is going to have to completely clean (no oil residue). Otherwise the crack will just move on you. I would advise a stick rod over tig and put a stainless steel bolt through the hole so it doesn't distort. Good luck.

scrap it. buy a used pipe on ebay. it cracked. welding it will make it weaker either at the weld or around it. what year and what motor?

Casting.......

:agree:.......He's got the idea. Casted metals are of a lower quality of pure metals. Very porous. Trying to weld them will only make them weak around the weld.

I think, looking for a replacement is your best bet......
