Just bought 2008 speedster 150 215hp. Put in water for first time and after about 3 min of idle the alarm started going off saying exhaust temp overheat or something like that. Smoke was coming from engine compartment. Any suggestions on where to start?

Take a look for a hose that may have come off. Was there water in the hull

there was defenitely water in the hull. Once I got home I noticed a rubber hose that goes from near the air filter to the engine was off on the engine side. Im assuming that is just air and not sure how the water was getting in

I believe we're anticipating a cooling hose is disconnected. If the bilge was flooded with water then make sure to inspect the engine oil for signs of milkshake, if there's water in the crankcase engine oil you want to change the oil immediately.

There also is a plastic piece that clips on to the engine that was loose. A rubber hose from the air filter goes around the engine and there is a hose clamp around this plastic piece that clips on the engine. The clips are broken on one side so its not sitting on there firmly. Anyone know what this piece is called?

I was headed in the direction of a cooling hose.

Answers both of your issues. Over heat and water in the hull..

pretty sure its the intercooler hose

i certainly hope it not the blow back hose with water in there!!
