Hello all, looking to buy a 97 GTX with about 150 hrs on it, but noticed a large amount of white smoke coming out exhaust when idling on the trailer with a hose hooked up to it, also quite a large amount of black oil on the ground behind the trailer, supposedly from when the bilge was drained after heavy rain.
Can any of the experts give me ideas on 1) Cause of excessive smoking and 2) Oil from Bilge.

Many Thanks ... John

rotary seals....

Sounds like the rotary shaft seals are shot. If they go bad, the oil will fill into your crankcase area and cause it to smoke.........but it's usually black. You may have a blown gasket between your cooling system and your water jacket. Water getting into your combutsion area causing it to steam.....
Check your plugs for signs of heavy oil or water.....

John, welcome to the seadoo forum. Its good to have you here. I would request a compression test to see what it is. It ideally should be 150psi per cylinder. If it low, it's an indication of a bad head "o" ring, or base gasket seal.

Thanks Karl, I'll bear that in mind when i get a mechanic to check it out prior to purchase.

Many Thanks .. John
