Just curious if anyone is having any issues with Ethanol. I know it's created issues with certain vehicles, motorcycles, boats, etc.

Don't use it....

Don't use it. The Rotax isn't designed to run it. This fuel burns a little colder and will probable cost a whole host of problems that are yet to be seen. The E-85 cars have been modified just to run the stuff, so I recommend staying away from it if possible.

Here in Md it's 10%. I'm not sure what it is elsewhere. I was just curious if it was possibly contributing to my current engine faliures. I don't believe it is but just one of those things. I haven't been able to burn a half tank of fuel yet and not sure what is in there and how long.

This is the recommended use of oil and fuel direct from seadoo.
Use High quality low ASH API TC Injector oil.
Do Not use NMMA TC-W, TC-W2 or TC-W3 outboard motor oils or other ash less type 2 cycle oil. Avoid mixing different brands of API TC oil as resulting chemical reaction will cause severe engine damage. Never mix Mineral or synthetics oil together.

Never use fuel containing more than 10 % alcohol,( Methanol or Ethanol) as severe damage will occur. The minimum of 87 octane is recommended for most engines.
I hope this helps.

I'm using Seadoo oil and plan on keeping it that way. Is there anyway to drain the current fuel that is in the boat for piece of mind?

You could siphon it out if you needed too. Use a bulb like the outboard boats use to help prime the siphon. Use the old fuel in your lawn mower...

Karl

I figured that was the course of action. At least this way I'll know the fuel is fresh and what it is. There's probably 14-15 gallons left in there. It might take a little while. -lol

I wouldn't take a chance...get it siphoning and just keep an eye on it. Be sure you have good ventilation.

just top it off with regular, ull be fine, this is per my mechanic who owns the dealership here...

I know that E85 jells up carb's in atv's and auto's when they sit for a while. Also The E85 jells up boat fuel filters. I had a sea ray that I had to keep extra fuel filters because the E85 jelled them up.

I bought my 96 Challenger and the gas sat all winter I ran it and it ran like crap so I am putting 93 octane to try to off set the bad gas. Is this a ok idea for these boats?

Your wasting you money on 93 octane fuel. That engine is designed to run on 87 octane. Anything above that is wasted, because it doesn't need the extra octane to run.

Karl

I called the place where I bought the boat, which was there on consignment. I asked it them if they filled it or the owner did. They said they winterized it in the fall and it was full. They assume it was purchased in Md or De because the owner, who also lives in Pa, kept the boat here. When we rebuilt the carbs, we did find a bit of gum in one of them. Not sure if this has been my major issue with blowing engines but that fuel will be coming out.

dont use that mineral oil crap use a synthetic, throw a can of water out if your realy worried, ull be fine..

huh? I was wondering about fuel not oil! both of my seadoo's are '08 and SC! I fill it up with 93 at local stations! Every station sells gas with ethanol. I do not know about the stations on water since one I checked sell 89 octane only. Should I worry about it? I thought they would have converted all new engines to accept ethanol now.

10 % ethanol is not going to hurt your engine! it has been at 9% for a long time. the government just upped the content to 10% not too long ago.

85% on the other hand WILL HARM YOUR ENGINE! it eats rubber. so if your jelling up your carbs thats probly why.

in a flexfuel car they have differnt fuel lines, vacuum lines and anything else that comes in contact with the e-85. there is also a sensor in the gas tank (on some) that determines how much ethanol and how much gasoline is in the tank. then from ther it can adjust the air-fuel mix. e-85 evaporates faster than gasoline so you need more parts fuel per air the higher the e-85 content.

thats why when you run strickly e-85 in a flexfuel vehicle the gas milage actually goes down a bit. because your running at a greater air-fuel ratio. but you get the satisfaction of knowing that your using 85% renewable resource.

i dont buy the whole ethanol fad. but my dad does, he farms.

to add to my previous post. girlfriends grandpa claims he read an article in i think popular mechanics that stated a car running on e-85 gets worse mpg than if running on unleaded. but if you turbocharge that same engine running e-85 then the mpg drasticly improves. and also improves horsepower.

not sure if i buy that one. i havent seen the magazine yet.:toetap05:

Yes its true. You get lower MPG on e85. Lets say a new tahoe gets 17mpg on the highway, it would only get 13mpg on e85.

i ment the turbo charger part
Thank you all for sharing this info with all of us if you could find some proof so we will all know that it is true it will help us to have a beter understanding.. Like the part about the turbo and beter gas mileage and the part without turbo that it will get worse gas mileage. Is any one up to the home work? I am sure the info is out there but will take some searching.
