what's up guys. i'm havin a bit of an issue with my 94 xp. it has the 657 in it. i've done all the usual post searching and think i MIGHT know what the problem is but here goes... a few weeks back, my brother was on it, hit a wave, came down, and it's been running rough ever since. if you are at an idle or gently hitting the throttle, everything seems fine. but once you hammer down, the engine vibrates ALOT and it would die if i would keep the throttle pushed. i'm a pretty versed auto mechanic so my first thought was a spun bearing or harmonic balancer or bent shaft but after some searching on the forum, i've found the most common answer is debris in the impeller/pump. does this sound right? i already looked up in there and didn't see anything. could i have missed it?

Check the motor mount. Maybe it was worn out and the hard slam snapped it. Reach down and push on the engine. See how much it moves. It should barely move. A bent driveshaft would cause it to vibrate hard too. If it was something in the impeller, you would notice a performance issue. It would probably be very slow but still rev up.

pull the pump off along with the driveshaft if it isnt the the motor mount.if it stops vibrating then the driveshaft maybe ur problem, just dont do it in the water lol

Thanks for the response guys. I'm gonna dig into it here soon and see what I can find. Is it a big project to get that jet pump out?

if by chance ur pump is glued in go back with a neoprene seal instead itll make things alot easier if u ever have to pull it off again.theyre only 6 bux

I'm having the SAME problem with my 95XP 800. It vibrates at high rpm's and ESPECIALLY when you jump it out of water. The vibration is crazy! I have confirmed that my problem is a bent drive shaft. I pulled it out, put it on a flat table and was able to tell it was warped by simply rolling it around. You can hear the whoOOOM whoOOOM as it rolls across the desk... Out of desperation, I put it on a flat piece of steel (part of my trailer) and gave it one good clank with a 16oz hammer on the high side. A second desk-roll test showed that it was true again. Next, I reinstalled, took to the lake and VIOLA! Smooth as butter. However, after 30 min of riding, I took a huge wave which upon landing, threw the shaft out of true again.... What do I do?! I don't want to buy a used shaft for $200, and I can't use my spare shaft from the 96xp b/c it's too short. I wanted to put the entire 96 pump/impeller on it, but the damn studs that the pump bolts onto on the 95's are way too long. What's the recommended procedure for removing those studs??
