Now i think i already know what the problem is but i just want to see what you guys think. i have a 1997 GTI 717 motor just finished breaking it in about 9 1/2 hours on the new motor. so i really opened it up today and it was running PERFECT better then ever before. Then a storm comes in and i wait for my dad to put the trailor in the water and the ski dies. So i figure well my idle is low so i try and restart nothing. still have half a tank left and everthing. So i push it up on the trailor. Now i started it up when i got home when it cooled down and i pulled the choke to start up and it runs. But if i dont keep pulling the choke in and out it cuts out. So i think the carburator needs to be rebuilt it hasnt in the 9 or ten years i had it. So what do you guys think?

ok thanks. i sprayed carb cleaner into it and it started right up and stayed running. So im guess maybe the fuel lines are deteriarating or something just got in the carb.

Spraying in the carbs won't do much. I would pull them and clean them. If you careful and don't tear or damage the diaphragms you won't need to buy rebuild kits. If it has the old gray fuel lines replace then and the clamps too if there in bad shape. Use stainless steel ones when you replace them. Than add some new plugs and you should be good to go.

ok, yeah the lines are grey but they seem to be in great shape from the out side and so do the clamps, but ill probly start with that.
