i took my 1995 sea doo xp for a ride yesterday and it was acting funny. it was going as fast as it usually does. the engine runs for a few seconds then feels like it bogs for a few seconds then runs for a few seconds. the top speed was probably around 20mph. I had lost the screws that you connect the battery terminals. So i replaced them with a different set. thats the only thing i have changed since. anyone have any ideas???

well, a normal person can do it, but you have to do it right or it wont work. your better off having it done, or taking them off and having them rebuilt and then putting them back on, but there is alot that goes into that as well. alot of little things that make a big deal. is yours the twin carb? or the single, i do believe the 95xp only came with twin carb, but i may be wrong about that. as for parts a rebuild kit for a Mikuni Super BN Carb (thats whats on yours) runs about $65 a piece, but you should be able to have it done for around $175-$225. i've done a bunch of rebuilds and my average that i charge is about $180 for twin carbs. if you want to go the cheap way only rebuild the fuel pump/pulse side of your main carb. that is pretty easy and can be done quickly and cheaply. buy the rebuild kit for one carb. when you look down at the carb (after you take off the airbox) there will be a hose coming from the engine to the one carb, that is your main/primary carb. that hose is the pulse. there are 4 screws on the front of the carb plate, un-screw those. inside the first plate there is a some-what hard plastic diaphram, thats your pulse wall. replace that with the clear one in the kit, also replace the o-ring there, and the o-ring on the other side as well as the rubber diaphram (fuel pump diaphram). replace those with the ones that are the same from your rebuild kit, in exactly the way they were before, and put it back together and screw it tight. dont strip the screws tho. when your done put the airbox back on and see if that helped with the issue. if not rebuild the whole carb, or have it rebuilt and that should take care of it. let me know how it goes

john...rebuild kit from seadoosource.com or parkeryamaha.com. pull carbs and pull each gasket bolt nut..etc, label each, match'n up from kit..no prob stud. You can always go to this site under the "PARTS" tab and blow up the carb of your ski, and see diagram...

i ordered the carb rebuild kit. also my vts hasnt worked since i bought the seadoo. what is the first things i should look for to get it to work????

plug in the 7.5amp fuse and see if she pops when mess'n w/ buttons. If not, check the button assy and also continuity thing(whatever its called) to vts motor/assy...

as for your VTS, first chech the VTS motor to see if it has water damage, if so i wouldnt hook it up or even mess with the fuses, you can blow your MPEM that way, thats what happened to me, and to a few of my clients. its not worth it to have trim if it will cost you money for an MPEM b/c a new one could run you $500+, you might be lucky and find one cheaper but you never know. if there is no water damage check the boot on the back of the ski on the VTS arm. if its bad replace it if you are going to hook up your VTS. if your not just leave it how it is. adjust your vTS to a nutral position manually and pretend you dont have one. its cheaper in the long run, trust me.
