I have owned my 98 XP LTD for only half a year now, but in the future when the engine blows (bound to happen) i was wondering if i could throw in a bigger engine. i searched around and it seems not too many people like to actually put some effort into doing things like these they just sell it and buy a new one. i love the way the my 98's handles and the size of it etc, its got the 951 cc 2 stroke, if i were to pick up lets say an 1100 4 cyl 4 stroke engine could i cram it in there? i am aware i would have to mod something things but i like projects :D the engine in my seadoo is mounted in the front so i do know a bigger engine would way down my front more so i could consider a new gas tank/moving it so i can move the engine as far back as possible.

basically what im asking is, is that just a waste of time and money? or would it be pretty damn sweet to have my xp with a 4 cyl 4 stroke rippin across the water?

I suggest you do 2 things 1st.

Size comparison, and weight comparison. Find a ski that has the motor you want, and put it beside yours, and start measuring.

And, then if you do go ahead, find the CG (CENTER OF GRAVITY) by balancing it. Try to maintain the same CG, AFTER the swap.

Just a few ideas.

ya i had that in mind i just didnt know how to balance it, shouldnt be too hard just put the hull on a 4x4 and move it back n forth till it balances and mark that spot. the engine it self shouldnt be a a WHOLE lot bigger, its only 150 more cc (depending on which engine) bigger then my current engine. weight is the biggest issue probably.

I'd doo it with a rope or strap sling, engine hoist, duct tape, markers, and a carpenter's level, with a bracket.

But, I ain't doin it!

Best of luck!

After you figure out that there is room inside for the motor, then maybe add some BALLAST to the ski, on both sides, where your feet normally ride. The ballast amount should equal, or be a little more than the 4-stroke motor. This would allow you to RIDE TEST it with the old motor. This would give you a WORKING knowledge of weight and balance. And what she will handle like, and where it handles the weight best. After adjusting the weights to where it rides the best, then park it, and find the CG, with a hoist and strap. Now, when you install the motor, you have a target to shoot for.

With model airplanes, that do not balance right, you have to add weights to them, to get it right. Since you are already adding alot of weight, a proper installation would be desirable, so as to avoid any additional weight, to balance it properly.

Just an idea.

Yah really!!!...keep dig'n around there, you'll see he/someone seperated the hull...:driving:

wow ya thats the only actual engine swap i have ever seen.

thats just an idea, heres another i want to actually do IF possibly.

To get a bit more pep out of my current 2 stroke, can i mod the exhaust? like lets say remove the muffler and just "straight" pipe it? i wouldnt actually straight pipe it because water could get in, there is the piece of rubber tubing that goes up and around my VTS so water has a harder time getting in. but i noticed theres a rave valve on the muffler? what does it do and why is it there? could i just not have it?
