hi all- I just picked up a rather nice 2006 sportster 215- with a blown supercharger for $1500.
has 77 hours on it- the boat is in beautiful condition otherwise. He never went to have the ceramic hardware in the supercharger replaced and now the sc is done. the engine still runs, but has no power. his kids kept running the engine after the failure so now I'm assuming the engine will need to be rebuilt as well (according to the previous owner's mechanic, the engine oil has a metallic look to it and said the engine will need to be rebuilt as well). my question is, I have a 2009 rxt-x 255- and I was thinking about pulling the engine out of that and putting it into the sportster. I was selling the rxtx anyway and I hade the sc on the rxtx rebuilt 10 hours ago. does anyone know if the swap is possible? would be a pretty nice upgrade for the boat ;)
otherwise, I'll spend the $3 or $4k to rebuild the sc & engine.
on a side note- I found a 2015 255 scic with 1 hour on it on ebay for $4k- which is another option.
said & done, I'd be thrilled to have a near mint 06 speedster with a new powerplant for $5k (including the price of the boat) at the end of the day- not too shabby! :)

Nice score, hope it works out for you.

Yes, you can swap engines. However, there will need to be some necessary changes and you will have to use the 2006 boat ECU if you want all the electronics to work properly. The seadoo boats are basically a year behind the pwcs as far as engines. 2006 was a mid year conversion for engine styles with different TOPS system and crank trigger position. Most likely you have the 2005 style. There are several differences between the 215 and 255 but the biggest difference is the sc boost.

You could swap the entire system out of the rxpx into the boat but the wiring harness is obviously too short to make it to the dash so you would have the 255hp but no gauges. It's possible to extend the harness but the boat has individual gauges and you would have to use the existing lcd cluster which is married to the ECU. The older style in the boat is not this way.

Just because it is possible doesn't mean it is a good idea. I would sell the rxpx which is worth around $5-6k and fix the boat. You'll be money ahead for sure.

after some thought, I agree-
I've also called a half dozen boat shops in a 90 minute radius of my house and none are scheduling any repairs until after labor day- ridiculous :banghead:
so, looks like I'll be pulling the motor out, undressing it, and redressing a new long block myself. I've done it twice before on my 2000 sea-doo challenger 240 M2 Mercury's, (don't get me started on those ticking time bombs!) I just really didn't want to be bothered- rather pay someone to do it! Here's some pics of the speedster- I got the boat, trailer & a bunch of other water sports things to go with it for $1500. ;)
also- anyone know if this 2015 215 motor I found on ebay would be a direct swap? I'm assuming not due to the analog gauges in my boat and the 2015 uses digital- and I want all my gauges to work! It comes with everything; sc, ecm...

definitely not a direct drop in. the new motors are fly by wire, yours is fly by throttle cable.

However, you could ditch all the new electronics and use the stripped down long block and it would work fine with your older stuff but probably not your best option as far as cost.
