hi group, I'm a newby on here, I just bought a non running '94 gts w/587, the engine damage is worse than I thought, can I repower with a larger engine like a 650/717 ? or is there too much work involved doing it? or should I stay with the 587? thanks!!:)

Engine swap...?

I'm not sure what type motor mount set up you have but if there was any of the engines that could be swaped out, it would be the pre 1995 96 models when the electrical system integrated the DESS (digital electronic security system). You'll have to know what type ignition the 587 is now running and what type your going to. If you move the engine, magneto wiring and electrical harness and box, you should be able to do the swap. I can see the 657 having a chance to fit your existing set up but not to sure of the 717. That would be a stretch.

Thanks Snipe!, thats what I'll try, just need a little direction, I'll check over a few 650's to see if they'll work, if this 587 didn't need a crank I'd rebuild it, Thanks again!

crank.....?

Do you have the crank?...if so, you may be able to get an OEM remanafactured crank from SBT.......

The first things I'd look at in changing out to a bigger motor is the pump and motor mounts. The electricals can all come out with the engine your replacing with and put in your ski. I've done this with another model PWC but not a Seadoo...........good luck!..
