Hi,

I am currently trying to repair my 657X engines after finding some major corrosion issues in one of them, I have spent a few hours cleaning the jugs up the best I can which has taken me from this

to this,

Although it is not perfect i'm guessing it should function well enough, however my issues / questions are as follows,

First of all as can be seen in the images a lot of the inner edge is missing which holds the seal in place, now I am in 2 minds what to do with it, I am considering using some worth bond and seal to bond the seal into place against the outer edge and then use some more sealer on top. The other is not to bother with the seals and just use a qood quality sealer around the outer edges of the jugs.

Does anyone know how much pressure is placed in the jugs as I know a lot of the water is passed through the exhaust from the pump so i'm guessing the pressure is fairly low and does anyone see any reason why my ideas wont work, I am guessing as long as I keep the water from leaking out of the jugs when running it should be no problem?

The other question I have relates to the drains / fill holes at the bottom of the jugs, I only seem to have holes for the drain on the exhaust side of the jug (2 in each jug) but on the other side there are no holes although thee are some fairly deep holes that are full of crap which I have done my best to clean out but have been unable to fully clean out.

Here are images of the holes I do have and the ones on the opposite side.

Any advise appreciated.

Many thanks

Andy

The pressure is actually pretty high. Most of the hoses, and bypasses have smaller orifices in them. You need the water to slowdown, and build pressure to properly pull the heat away. But that's irrelevant since that engine looks rough.

The drains are dumb anyway. They don't self drain, and that's why the engines rot inside... and why the crack in the winter, if you don't get antifreeze in them.

Anyway... I've read over your post twice, and I'm not sure what you are really trying to accomplish. The engine is rough, and obviously old. Glue it back together, and run it until it dies.

Thanks for the responce,

All I am wondering is if there is any problem with sealing the jugs to the head or if anyone else has a better solution.

The other thing was if there should be holes for drainage at the inlet side of the jugs or just at the exhaust side.

Many thanks

Andy
