I have been searching the forum and cannot find the answer.
What paint can I get that will match the grey engine color?
I just rebuilt the 787RFI out of my 2000 GSX and would like to paint it before reinstalling.

Here you go, this is the absolute closest I have found short of going to the autobody store.

Duplicolor HPW101 Wheel silver. It has a very fine metallic to it.

I bought it at Pep Boys, but probably available anywhere you can get car parts.

I painted both engines and exhaust, the only part that is still OEM silver is my water boxes and it is so damn close. I was very particular about the color, it has no effects from chemicals. After each wash I use almost a full can of Seadoo Lube on the engine bay, so that is sitting on there all the time, this also gets the color just that much closer to OEM. Going on it's 5 season I think now on the one engine and 4 season on the other.

Ive been wondering the same thing, as I am about to tear into a 787 and rebuild. Thanks racer, I was wondering about this paint. I have heard it is really good stuff, but wondered how it would hold up on these engines. Looks great, is that what you used on your XP project too?

Thanks, that is exactly the information I was looking for. Your engine paint job looks great. Did you use any clear over the color?

Nope that's straight from the can, pay attention to the paint as you lay it down, a few light coats then the wet coats. Work from the top down, like washing a car, hit the crazy crevices first that's where you load the paint and it will have more runs than Niagara Falls. Working from the top down will blend the overspray in and the paint won't get chalky.

that's a beautiful pic.. very nice very nice

Did you just paint that while it was in the boat? or did you pull the motor and spray it down ?

Nope, pulled them out. I had the entire engines stripped to nothing and then I rebuilt them and sprayed them while it was assembled outside the boat.
