Engine full of water...

Recently purchased a Sea Doo Challenger 180 from a dealer. Had the boat on the water for about 20 secs before the engine choked. Luckily it started right up, only to cut off again a few hundred yards from the dock. Got towed back, and parked it back at the dealer the same day.

Word from service dept is the "engine is full of water." Trying to figure out what happened I got the service history, looks like new sparks, oil change, supercharger rebuild, and new wear ring. I made the mistake of not having them water test it before I took it home, but could anything during the service caused a problem?

Appreciate any help, very frustrated...

Did you close the drain plugs in the back before putting it in the water? Happened to me twice when I forgot to close the drain plugs put the boat in and started wondering why the bilge pump suddenly started running at full speed. Luckily still had the boat hoked to the trailer so jumped in the car and pulled out as uickly as possible... It didn't flood the engine.... but.....

That really sucks man, first time out too....

The only thing I can think of is maybe the intercooler was leaking causing the motor to ingest water. Not sure what year or exactly what engine you have, but some of the newer supercharged motors are also intercooled (at least in the PWC's), and I have heard of people having trouble with them if not maintained properly.

I hope the dealer does right by you and everything works out. Let us know what you find.
