Engine compartment mystery flooding

My 1997 GSX fills with water in a matter of minutes while riding. Sitting in the water with engine off it is fine. I have tried filling the engine compartment with fresh water (not too high) to see if there is a shaft seal leak or even a breech in the hull. Results were negative. I am beginning to think the bilge drainage system is blowing water into the engine compartment while the impellor is spinning. Has this ever happened? Can I plug the bilge system for a few runs to see if that is the problem? In reading my shop manual it sure appears like it could be. Any thoughts Karl?

From what you say you've already done, then the next step will should be pinching off your bailing tubes. These tubes work off the "venturi" system pump. When water from the jets nozzle rushes past the nozzles for the bailer system, it creates a low pressure and puts a vacuum on your bailer tubes. If there is partial blockage in that area, the water pressure will actually run back into the boat.

So yes, pinch off those tubes and give it a run. Then, look inside to see if your still getting water. Check your cooling lines to the exhaust etc...even the one that connects to the exhaust running under the engine back to the resonater............

Thanks

Ok thanks. I will block those off and see what happens next time I have it in the water. Is there any way to repair this? If there is blockage can I blow water through the bilge system without danger of introducing water into the engine?

Dale.

I am actually having a very similar problem, if not exactly the same, with my 1990 ski. I will try the same things you are trying, and if you find the problem please post, I'll do the same. Hopefully we can both get our skis back up and running.
