Greetings all. Today we took our wave runners out. We bought them used and they run great. However, the problem is that we forgot to put in the drain plug of one of them and after 5 min of sitting on it idling, it filled up with water up to the seat.

Well, we pulled it back out, drained all the water out. Charged the battery back up with jumper cables. Tried to start it back up and get it going again, and it wont' start now. Just tries to turn over but we dont even get much of a turn over. Just hear the starter trying to do it but it wont' crank over. Every once in a while it will turn once but then stop and just click like it's trying to but won't.

We pulled the plugs out and tried many of the methods i have read here and we see no water coming out of the cylinders. Cleaned the plugs, and even white greased them. Put them back in and still nothing. I popped off the 2 vents that run to the sides of the air intake. The plastic part that's connected to the carbs. Popped that off and felt for water in the carbs. Didn't feel any. This may be because i was already trying to start it back up and it dried by the time i pulled it off to check. So we pulled the fuel filters out, cleaned out what little gunk that was in there, and replaced them. Still nothing with starting. Same issue. Anyone have any idea's what we should do from here? Greatly appreciate the responses. Have a great Labor day weekend.

bummer...

Hey there check your fuses firstlty and then replace that battery as the water would have fried it for sure... jumper leads aren't a good idea and should be used in emergencies only. Put a little premix fuel into your cyclinder and see if it will fire. If you still have a cranking issue here take out your plugs and see if it will turnover easier now... if not you need to remove plugs take off your stator cover and try and turn the driveshaft by hand to see if your engine will indeed turn over ... you may have fried your starter with the water.

OK tried all that already except the replacement of the battery. The battery was swaped with the other waverunner and it still did the same thing. I know it turns over. We took the plugs out and it turns just fine. Even turns every once in a while. Just won't start. That's the only issue that we can't figure out. What's the chances of the fuel tank getting water in it? I mean we didn't tip it or anything, just filled up with water from the plug being out. Any other suggestions?

Thanks for the reply btw

water..

Ok i would be rebuilding your carbies next and replacing air filter and also cleaning out fuel tank ... all precautionary measures. R U sure you didn't get any water inside engine?

No we are not sure if we did or not. It doesn't appear that we did. I'm sure it is possible that we might have but there isn't a way to tell for sure without pulling things apart. I"m just curious if anyone else has done this before or had something like this happen as well. Where it gets full of water and did the same thing. Anyone else have any suggestions as seadolover does?
