Engine Bay strut and gap problem or nuisance rather...

So my hatch strut got pulled out rivets and all...easy enough to fix. The only problem is, when I close my hatch, there seems to be a quarter inch gap(maybe a little less) between the weather stripping and the hull. Is this normally there? It was broke before I aquired the boat so I have no idea. I riveted the strut back on but turned the socket the opposit way to account for pressure to make sure it didnt pop out again. If anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate it or if you think this will cause no problems that would be ok too! I have attached some pictures(sorry for the bad quality on the gap one). There shoudln't be a gap... but I'm not sure how to fix it, since I can't see it in person. I would think that when you re-mounted the shock... you put it just a little rearward... and that's why it's lifting. (not enough room for the shock to compress)

I mounted it the same height as factory just a half inch to the right. Will it hurt anything? It latches fine
