How do you activate the electrical system without the engine running so that I can test the guages and VTS system on a 95 XP?

Put the lanyard in place. I think it times out in like 1 minute on that model.

When I plug the lanyard in, I get nothing until I hit the start button and turn the engine on.

Shouldn't you be able to get 30 seconds or so of power if you hit the starter button without the lanyard attached?

My ski is totally dead until I attach the lanyard to it.
