Electrical Issues

As I was going thru the boat this weekend looking for any issues, I found the multi pin connector that is going into the fuse box interface corroded. The green seal on the plug was half missing and it was a little wet inside ( probably from the bath I just gave the engine bay). I cleaned off the pins the best I could and dried it out. How can I seal this so it wont let any water in ? Is there a special kind of grease I can use? It seems the other plugs have this clear grease on but I don't know what it is.

Next I found 1 of the 2 blowers not to be blowing. Are they fused independently? I always thought the blowers blew air into the engine bay but the one that works is sucking air out- guess you learn something new every day.

Lastly, I have one DESS key that's black that starts both engines and one that's yellow that only starts one engine and gives a solid beep when I put it on the DESS post. Not sure what is the deal with that but I think that one is a dealer fix with the BUDS system.

Lucky that you caught it when you did. That black box is called a Simple Engine Interface and costs $498 to replace. The lower 3 pins on mine were rusted off flush with the bottom plastic. Dielectric grease is available to seal and prevent corrosion. Mine had none on the pins. On my 2006 Sportster 4TEC this sits up behind the instrument panel - down low where water would likely be. I had to replace 2 corroded pins on the plug side - they are Packard or Delphi part # 12084912. I ended up getting them from a GM dealer where I knew the service manager. Radio Shack was no help.

I cleaned and sealed and now it wont start. Cleaned again and it works. I need a whole new plug end. The pins in the interface box look ok. Where can I get a whole new plug or harness that's not crazy expensive?

My $eadoo dealer didn't mention whole plug availability when I asked about replacement female plug ends. They did give me that Packard part number though. The plug does come apart - suspect there is some white or green corrosion in there. My preference is to fix on dry land rather that stuck out at sea. I have extra female end if you need one. One of mine was worn or corroded thru one side, one had a broken of interface pin in it and several were corroded. I applied liberal coating of di-electric grease. I did clean with some electrical component cleaner I found in Advance Auto.

Does the plug you have have the green seal and the pins or do you get the pins separately? I don't know if I trust myself keeping the wires in the right places.
