Electrical Issue 96 Speedster??

Periodically I have both engines on the speedster randomly die always at the same time. There is no rhyme or reason when they do, sometimes crawling out of the channel and others after I have been running at 45 MPH. Only thing I have to do to start back up is shift to neutral and I am good to go again. Only other thing that happens when the engines cut is that all gauges lock up where they are running (RPM & Speedo).

I am guessing the problem is electrical somewhere as often the boat will run like a top and others it will stall out multiple times but the only common factor is that it is always both engines that cut out at the same time.

Any ideas as to where to start looking to correct the issue?

Thanks,

Since both die at the same time... and you think it's electrical... I'm going to say that the lanyard post has gone bad. It's a common issue with the ski's of this era.

Basically the little magnetic switch inside is going bad, and starts to become intermittent.

Installed new DESS post and boat ran like a top for the last week with zero problems and tonight same problem reoccurred. Both engines quit at the same time and as soon as the boat came off plane I shifted to neutral and restart fine. I now have brand new key and DESS and same problem.

Any ideas what the issue may be??

Thanks.

I have the same problem with my 96 speedster. I haven't gotten to the bottom of it, but after reading this I'm not going to replace the DESS post. Let me know if you figure it out.

Right after I installed the new DESS it happend 2 or 3 times right after I refueled???? Not knowing if that has anything to do with it but (knock on wood), it hasnt happened since and I use it at least once or twice every weekend. Not 100% sure if the problem is solved....I tend to think not, but I am not going to complain for the time being.......

I will keep you posted if it reoccurs.....
