Dual banshee CDI's for Challenger twin 787's

I'm new to this forum and just picked up a 1999 Challenger. I'm a motorcycle tech by trade and I was thinking of an easy cheap way to get rid of the Seadoo stock ignition setup as I keep reading how troublesome and expensive they can be. I thought of running dual banshee cdis, coils, and just wire the stock pickup coil from the 787 to the Banshee cdi. Has anyone done anything like this? It seems like someone would've done something similar. I guess if nobody has then I will do a thread and see how it goes.

That may be a good idea. But how will you get the timing set? The coil in the 800 engine is fixed, and you set the timing in the stock CDI.

I guess the unknown at the moment is the delay in the Yamaha unit, and the timing curve.
 
The banshee has a very limited mechanical timing adjustment. If anything I would oblong the holes on the pickup if I needed a small adjustment. Timing curve should be close enough. I've ran vintage mx with total loss with fixed timing with no issues.
 
If you switch to the yamaha ones you will loose all of the safety stuff like the lander coming off, the neutral safety switch, temp sensor and stuff like that. Would have to make a kill switch or sometime like that. Plus would the yamaha stuff hold up to marine environment? To me if just seems like a lot of butchering to try to make work when you can get 2 PCW MPEMs and make them work for sure since people of done that with no big issues. Is the MPEM dead? If its not why replace it? I don't hear much of the dual engine single MPEMs failing unless you jump them or charge the batteries while connected.

I've just started reading up on these specific crafts. I've heard of people using other PCW MPEMs so if anyone has a write up let me know. Can you get an MPEM that doesn't require having the lanards programed to the MPEM. I don't like dealing with any dealership BS. I want to keep it as simple as possible. To answer the question of is it bad I don't have an answer just yet, I'm getting it this friday. But I don't want days spent out at the lake have shit go wrong left and right from a poor design from the factory. KISS it and be done with it. Yes I think the Banshee stuff would hold up to lake riding, they were made to deal with atv riding with a lot less protection. If someone has a bullet proof fix that doesn't cost 2k let me know.
 
I haven't heard of any of the boat people with the 787's having that many issues with electronics its mostly the PWCs you hear with the coils and that until they fix them. People are much rougher on the skis than boats. If the current MPEM is good I wouldn't dump it. The only way you get by without having someone program keys for you is to get aftermarket MPEMs but those are really hit or miss or get a programmer yourself. Most of the issues is the fuel system, oil system servicing and jet drive servicing issues for most people.

If it runs fine now I would take off the mag cover and look over the electronics to make sure no water entered and everything is up to par and go from there. The fuel system is the main part that needs servicing since people do nothing but fuel and oil most of time. Make sure you boat has the full synthetic oil and meets API-TC. The later of the 787s the better for the fixes to be done to them.

I have 1800 Sportster with the easier to maintain 717's. A little slower than the Challenger and different seat config but it works pretty good for 18 years old. Just waiting for my new engines from fullbore to come in to freshin that part up.
