Lost the splines on the drive shaft on motor end. What would typically cause this? The splines at the pump side appear fine. Also should , I assume that the piece that the shaft fits into should be replaced at the same time? In other words, is the driveline made of a softer alloy so as to be the wear point, so as to not have to replace both as thing wear. Thanks for reading

pto is probably gone to , I repaired one of these last year , could not call it on what was the cause of the problem.
but put parts on aligned engine and never heard back from the customer, I would call it, no grease maybe.

I have all the parts for this repair for sale.

Out of alignment seriously aids in the failure of the splines. Reason is, there is a contestant strain in one area at all times. Much like new pistons in an engine, it will constantly wear while trying to mate up. 5 thousands off is all that is needed to be an issue.
